@k900:0upti.meK900Tailscale just gives you a magic overlay network15:26:02
@aurorasystem:matrix.orgAurora Ennie Seidr (she / her)I think I initially went zerotier because it was getting around ISP port blocking it whatever15:26:01
@k900:0upti.meK900That can route any traffic15:26:06
@k900:0upti.meK900Including SSH15:26:13
@aurorasystem:matrix.orgAurora Ennie Seidr (she / her)* I think I initially went zerotier because it was getting around ISP port blocking or whatever15:26:17
@aurorasystem:matrix.orgAurora Ennie Seidr (she / her)Okay so I have a new problem (upon reflection). This openssh connection means that I have to use powershell to start a WSL connection initially. How do I reconnect to that already existing vm that I may have been disconnected from without launching an entirely new one? 15:45:43
@aurorasystem:matrix.orgAurora Ennie Seidr (she / her)If I'm remoting into what amounts to a small bastion host the VM I spawn has to be reachable 15:47:05
@aurorasystem:matrix.orgAurora Ennie Seidr (she / her)What's powershell 's version of "reconnect to this instead of launching new" ?15:47:49
@aurorasystem:matrix.orgAurora Ennie Seidr (she / her)Linux has screen15:48:11
@aurorasystem:matrix.orgAurora Ennie Seidr (she / her)Screen -rd (id name here)15:48:34
@aurorasystem:matrix.orgAurora Ennie Seidr (she / her)The research I'm doing says I'm hosed15:50:52
@aurorasystem:matrix.orgAurora Ennie Seidr (she / her)Either I pay money to someone, or stand up an outside server in the cloud for money. Which means I'm paying either way 15:51:48
@aurorasystem:matrix.orgAurora Ennie Seidr (she / her)So now it's "f you Aurora you have to reboot your PC like a big girl and just suck it up and run NixOs manually on bare metal and hope that driver support is there for all your stuff" 15:52:58
@aurorasystem:matrix.orgAurora Ennie Seidr (she / her)To say "this isn't fair" would be an understatement15:53:34
@aurorasystem:matrix.orgAurora Ennie Seidr (she / her)And yes this is how my research goes. "If only you had more money, paid more more, or sacrificed.. this would work" 15:54:55

The WSL VM is a singleton
16:07:00
@k900:0upti.meK900There's always exactly one of it16:07:09

I don't get it. Then how am I creating multiple windows?
16:07:57
@k900:0upti.meK900They're processes inside the same VM16:08:09
@k900:0upti.meK900Just like you can have multiple terminal windows on a normal Linux system16:08:32
@k900:0upti.meK900You can run screen in it as well16:08:51
@k900:0upti.meK900As normal16:08:52
@aurorasystem:matrix.orgAurora Ennie Seidr (she / her)When I do "WSL -d" in powershell it doesn't just spawn another windows based process, or start another separate VM of the same process? 16:09:44
@aurorasystem:matrix.orgAurora Ennie Seidr (she / her)
In reply to @k900:0upti.me
You can run screen in it as well
They ported screen to win64 powershell?
16:10:10
@k900:0upti.meK900It spawns another shell process in the VM16:10:24
@k900:0upti.meK900

You can run it in the WSL VM
16:10:32
@aurorasystem:matrix.orgAurora Ennie Seidr (she / her)Ok I think I get it. I just hate spending money16:11:07
@k900:0upti.meK900Money?16:11:12
@k900:0upti.meK900There should be no money in this anywhere16:11:17
@aurorasystem:matrix.orgAurora Ennie Seidr (she / her)I know. I mean I was thinking of getting this to work for me and I was seeing cost since the tailwind thing wasn't a Windows product and the only stuff that did allow me to bypass it cost. Stupid ISP filtering firewall rules were expected again16:13:33
