K900 | But I haven't looked at it closely yet | 17:39:43 |
K900 | nzbr (they/it) Sandro 🐧: any ideas? | 17:40:01 |
@sielicki:matrix.org | come to think of it, I have some PRs I want to open against nixpkgs, I packaged zsh-histdb, zsh-histdb-skim, zsh-histdb-fzf and want to get those in. Maybe next weekend I'll take a stab at the installer. | 17:43:14 |
@sielicki:matrix.org | also think I have autofdo working | 17:43:54 |
| Yvan Sraka joined the room. | 18:09:46 |

Sandro 🐧 | In reply to @k900:0upti.me It's mostly just that all of this would be a lot easier if upstream actually communicated to distros If we get the hold of some name I could try to write them a nice mail. | 21:56:57 |
Sandro 🐧 | In reply to @sielicki:matrix.org when 95% of your users only know apt, it's hard to justify spending money on someone to communicate with a random snowflake distro yes, thats true. If I could convenience my employer that WSL is an actually supported and broadly used dev environment on Windows then maybe something moves but it isn't and most other people use Mac and are scared to update on every major update because $things break. | 21:59:09 |

Sandro 🐧 | In reply to @k900:0upti.me nzbr (they/it) Sandro 🐧: any ideas? no, not really. Most things I would like to see are complicated | 22:00:31 |
Arson Copperflame | In reply to @sandro:supersandro.de If we get the hold of some name I could try to write them a nice mail. The Twitter of the WSL lead dev is in the footer of the native systemd announcement IIRC | 23:40:58 |
Sandro 🐧 | https://www.craigloewen.com/
and I found a mail. Maybe we can find his MS mail, too. | 23:44:58 |

Arson Copperflame | Thanks, GIT | 23:50:46 |
Arson Copperflame | * Thanks, git | 23:51:26 |
Sandro 🐧 | now only someone needs to write a pleasant mail | 23:55:06 |
Arson Copperflame | I'm not really good at that, lol
Ideally, we'd get someone with an @nixos.org email to do it | 23:57:49 |

p10r | The board recently got in touch with Github the company, maybe this can be done as well | 02:23:30 |
@sielicki:matrix.org | In reply to @sandro:supersandro.de Do you have some links? https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/203103 | 02:38:20 |

Sandro 🐧 | Did we get any further with wslg other than running sudo rm -rf /tmp/.X11-unix; ln -s /mnt/wslg/.X11-unix /tmp/.X11-unix every start or am I breaking things? | 09:52:50 |
K900 | It should work fine with native systemd | 09:54:33 |
K900 | Native systemd is almost perfect now if you also do the hack in https://github.com/nix-community/NixOS-WSL/issues/171 | 09:55:10 |
Sandro 🐧 | so I basically change my login shell to a wrapper that sources our envs because they run over pam? | 11:29:56 |
Sandro 🐧 | Now is the question: do I want to try native systemd? | 11:30:15 |
K900 | In reply to @sandro:supersandro.de so I basically change my login shell to a wrapper that sources our envs because they run over pam? Yes | 11:33:00 |

K900 | In reply to @sandro:supersandro.de Now is the question: do I want to try native systemd? * Also yes | 11:33:06 |
Sandro 🐧 | Maybe that's the first things that just works today /s | 11:33:43 |
Sandro 🐧 | In reply to @k900:0upti.me Also yes should it drop me into a root shell or do I need to restart WSL? | 15:28:47 |
