@jonringer:matrix.org | The Nix Community is nothing without contributors, and contributors want to feel like they have some agency in how they can participate. Maybe I'm just still upset over srid getting banned over opposing the prescribed moderation decisions. Meanwhile other members of the community can hop into matrix channels, tell 3+ people to F-off, and not receive a slap on the wrist. | 17:44:48 |
infinisil | In reply to @infinisil:matrix.org Agreed. I'd never want to make decisions in such a private room, and indeed we never did Oh well I guess that private room was used to decide over new members | 17:46:58 |
infinisil | Anyways I'll soon share the logs of that room, it's really not very exciting. In summary it's:
- Getting everybody to approve two new members
- Me using the @ room in that channel to easily ping all members and ask for a new meeting time after the member were accepted
- Me lamenting about the team not working and drafting the announcement to dissolve it

Is that question still relevant now?
I think creating walls and barriers to contributions is always a relevant question in a FOSS community
inviting bigots, like srid, who was banned, into your community is a massive contribution barrier to the people they are bigoted against. I'm not willing to debate this or rehash the moderation decision and this is not the channel to further discuss this, I just have to point out that this is something you are very notably missing. | 17:50:23 |
@piegames:matrix.org | This is not an appropriate place for this discussion. Please stop | 17:50:59 |

And from a community member standpoint, it's like witnessing a car crash, seeing a few people get hauled off. One member miraculously survives, and the other person some how died of scratches. | 17:51:01 |

Where is an appropriate place? Direct correspondence with the Moderation team is for moderation concerns, I think this is a community concern.
| 17:51:54 |
@piegames:matrix.org | Not sure tbh. Maybe Discourse? Maybe #platform-governance:nixos.org? | 17:52:49 |
infinisil | Or #moderation:nixos.org? | 17:53:00 |
@piegames:matrix.org | In reply to @infinisil:matrix.org Or #moderation:nixos.org? Preferably not. That channel is better kept low traffic for time-critical reports | 17:53:26 |
@jonringer:matrix.org |
Maybe Discourse?
Pretty sure srid did this, and got banned.
Maybe Nix Platform Governance?
Last time I was told to F off

tomberek | jonringer: That is a valid discussion, but I agree that this specific forum is wrong. piegames where would you like it to be? | 17:56:02 |
infinisil | I think #platform-governance:nixos.org would be most appropriate then | 17:56:17 |

This is a heavy distortion of what actually happened at best. Anyways, I don't think that I'm sufficiently qualified here and have pinged the other moderators. | 17:58:32 |

All I have to go on is that post-fallout chatter, and what srid released publicly. There's was little transparency to clarify the reasoning behind the ban.

@jonringer:matrix.org | Anyway, to prevent further noise in this thread. I'll stop my responses. | 18:01:43 |
infinisil | If you start discussing this elsewhere you can post a link here for reference :) | 18:02:11 |
Jonas Chevalier | One of the hard part of getting large projects done is to find the right people. People you get along with and that are going to augment you. One bad apple can easily disrupt a project. That bad apple might be a good fit for other people so it's not a judgement. But it makes sense to me to select people in private. | 18:10:40 |
