infinisil | Robert Hensing (roberth): Thanks <3 | 13:28:27 |
Robert Hensing (roberth) | a rewrite with blackjack | 13:28:28 |
Growpotkin | It's a bit like "man if I could go back to high school today I'd do so much different"; but like, for programming. It's delightful 😁 | 13:29:24 |
infinisil | @room: The next meeting will take place in ~10 minutes - meeting link - live stream - meeting notes | 14:21:44 |

Robert Hensing (roberth) | looks like the Simple Package Paths shepherds got approved: https://github.com/NixOS/rfc-steering-committee/issues/113 | 15:04:16 |
@piegames:matrix.org | infinisil could you please update the RFC text to clarify that it is about nixpkgs? I agree that it kind of starts in the middle of the action where some context is implied. | 22:06:07 |
@piegames:matrix.org | If you can also make the definition of "unit" more clear that would be great, but honestly I think it is good enough as-is | 22:06:29 |
infinisil | piegames: Hmm, Nixpkgs is mentioned fairly early in the Detailed Design section | 22:14:42 |
@piegames:matrix.org | In reply to @infinisil:matrix.org piegames: Hmm, Nixpkgs is mentioned fairly early in the Detailed Design section Yeah that's good, I'm mostly concerned about the summary | 22:15:22 |
infinisil | Ah fair | 22:15:55 |
infinisil | piegames: Done, also pushed some updates about the recently discussed things | 22:49:04 |
infinisil | * piegames: Done, also pushed some updates about the pkgs/unit thing | 22:49:16 |
infinisil | Well, let me know if you think the summary should still be improved, I only added some Nixpkgs mentions, didn't change it very much | 22:50:57 |
@piegames:matrix.org | No, I'm happy now | 23:06:31 |
@piegames:matrix.org | Unless we want to discuss alternative names to "unit" some more first (no strong opinions on my side either way), I'd suggest that the other Shepherds review the current text and then give their go in direction of FCP? | 23:08:19 |
@piegames:matrix.org | In reply to @roberthensing:matrix.org looks like the Simple Package Paths shepherds got approved: https://github.com/NixOS/rfc-steering-committee/issues/113 Btw, who is actually shepherd leader? I don't think the meeting notes mention that | 23:09:17 |

I'd say let's wait until the middle of next week to give Robert Hensing (roberth) (co-author) and niksnut more time to reply and argue. If some new good arguments are brought up until then we might have to think some more. If not, I think I'll just make a comment to ask all shepherds to upvote that comment if they agree to do FCP | 23:11:36 |
infinisil | In reply to @piegames:matrix.org Btw, who is actually shepherd leader? I don't think the meeting notes mention that Yeah I feel like that was missed.. In any case it doesn't really matter for the RFC, I'll just leave the shepherd lead field blank | 23:12:17 |
@emilytrau:matrix.org | Heya y'all! I caught up on the minutes from the last meeting. Excited to see what kind of experiments we can play with in minimal-bootstrap!
Keen to try out derivationStrict but I ran into this eval error when swapping it in to derivationWithMeta:
error: attribute 'outPath' missing
at /home/emilytrau/Documents/code/nixpkgs/lib/customisation.nix:229:35:

229| outPath = assert condition; drv.outPath;

(use '--show-trace' to show detailed location information)

@piegames:matrix.org | phaer j-k growpotkin ( Alex Ameen ) I'd like to ask you to review the current version of the RFC text in the next days, and give your go towards announcing FCP if no new issues come up | 12:22:21 |

It exists to enable discussion, after all. | 12:24:44 |
