@qyliss:fairydust.spaceAlyssa RossI don't want to be training data for OpenAI09:36:02
@qyliss:fairydust.spaceAlyssa Rosswe have other community members that feel similarly strongly09:36:09

I don't want to be training data for OpenAI
they claim they don't do that
11:05:30
@noob_tea:matrix.orgteanot sure that this is the right place to ask, but why do we mark abandoned PRS/issues as stale in nixpkgs repo, and not close them?11:06:23
@k900:0upti.meK900Do you mean the "stale" label?11:08:11
@k900:0upti.meK900They're not closed because "a robot closed a PR I care about" is generally not a nice experience11:08:31
@k900:0upti.meK900And having the number lower isn't worth alienating potential contributors11:08:40
@piegames:matrix.org@piegames:matrix.orgAlso, "this has not been touched in a while" turns out to be a pretty bad metric for deciding to close something11:12:38
@piegames:matrix.org@piegames:matrix.orgFeel free to use the stale label as an invitation to triage issues and close those we don't need anymore11:13:00

Do you mean the "stale" label?
yes
11:14:32
@whentze:matrix.orgWanja Hentzestalebotting is awful, I think we should be doing it even less11:17:23
@whentze:matrix.orgWanja Hentzejust marking as stale doesn't do too much harm, but is also quite useless. I can tell something is stale just by looking at it11:18:49
@noob_tea:matrix.orgtea people were talking about a "pr apocalypse" with like 2000 open prs. we are constantly over 3000-3100 now 11:19:02
@whentze:matrix.orgWanja Hentzeand instead of filtering for the tag you can always filter for "last updated" or something11:19:06
@k900:0upti.meK900

So?
11:19:40
@k900:0upti.meK900We can just close all of them and be a t011:19:49
@k900:0upti.meK900 * We can just close all of them and be at 011:19:50
@k900:0upti.meK900But the goal isn't to just get to 0 by any means necessary, is it11:19:58
@whentze:matrix.orgWanja HentzePR apocalypse happened at exactly 2012 open PRs like the dead sea scrolls predicted11:20:02

People were also talking about global overpopulation a century ago, when we had only a billion people on earth.
11:20:15
@noob_tea:matrix.orgteaI would prefer closing stale PRS but i see it isn't a popular opinion so11:20:30
@k900:0upti.meK900Like, we definitely need more triage bandwidth11:20:34
@k900:0upti.meK900But auto-closing PRs doesn't get you more triage bandwidth11:20:44
@k900:0upti.meK900It just makes the number look smalle11:20:57
@k900:0upti.meK900 * It just makes the number look smaller11:20:58
@k900:0upti.meK900But then again, so does closing literally every PR the second it's opened11:21:20
@piegames:matrix.org@piegames:matrix.org

Again, feel free to do so if you think something can/should be closed. But blindly closing everything stale is not an option
11:21:23
@whentze:matrix.orgWanja Hentze if anything, I feel like stalebotting leads to more stuff being opened 11:21:44
@whentze:matrix.orgWanja Hentzebecause somebody will make a new issue and somebody else re-opens the old one or something11:22:01
@whentze:matrix.orgWanja Hentzenot sure how frequent that is but I've seen it happen11:22:20
