| ibizaman | Hi everyone, I wanted to share I'd like to start a meetup in Fribourg, or near Fribourg. See https://discourse.nixos.org/t/nix-meetup-in-fribourg-switzerland/69455
I thought I'd advertise about it here since some of you might be close enough to be interested :) | 19:02:25 |

| teapot | there is a Nix Bern since not too long ago, which is slightly closer to Fribourg than Zürich 😄 https://www.meetup.com/nix-bern | 20:21:59 |

| Lorenz | There is also https://www.meetup.com/nix-romandy | 05:31:23 |
| john-rodewald | So many groups are sprouting! 🌱 | 12:27:03 |
| matthewcroughan | keeping track of them all will be impossible | 12:27:19 |
| matthewcroughan | Would be nice to have something like robots.txt | 12:27:34 |
| matthewcroughan | nix.txt? advertises that you are a nix user group and still alive | 12:27:42 |
| matthewcroughan | * nug.txt? advertises that you are a nix user group and still alive | 12:27:49 |
| teapot | There's https://nix.ug | 12:28:38 |
| matthewcroughan | Yeah I made it but it's not automated | 12:28:47 |
| matthewcroughan | I wanted some health checking | 12:28:53 |
| teapot | ooh | 12:29:11 |
| matthewcroughan | that frontend (homer) actually has a health check ability where the javascript can ping the end hosts and see if it's still up | 12:29:21 |
| matthewcroughan | each nug homepage could have some sort of status to indicate whether alive or dead, 404 or 503 also means dead | 12:29:37 |
| matthewcroughan | but some put less effort in than others | 12:29:47 |
| matthewcroughan | * but some put less effort in than others, only using meetup.com, so not possible to automatically check whether that is still alive | 12:30:15 |
| Lorenz | I don't think that would work. A static website does not prove activity | 14:58:52 |
| matthewcroughan | In reply to @apeioo:matrix.orgWe're trying to prove inactivityI don't think that would work. A static website does not prove activity
 | 15:06:27 |
| matthewcroughan | And low hanging fruit, not fool proof | 15:06:42 |
| Lorenz | How about a site where the latest event is posted in a specific format? That would have to be updated regularly... | 15:13:24 |
| Lorenz | As an aside, instead of spamming this channel, there should be a Meetup organizer channel (is there already one?) | 15:14:13 |
| ners | You could fetch the website periodically (e.g. once per month), hash its content, and then expect the hash to change at least once per year. :D | 15:14:18 |

| ibizaman | And then we could rank sites depending on how often they refresh their content and how relevant they are to your profile. Wait… no! 🤣 | 16:30:50 |
| ibizaman | More seriously, Bern and Lausanne are same driving distance ~50min from my place so that’s awesome! Thanks for the tip. Also I would have never thought of using Homer for that. Nice! | 16:35:47 |
| Lorenz | @ibizaman we are always looking for talks for our Meetup ☺️ they should be beginner friendly though, because we are trying to also target new people and not only advanced Nixers. The goal is to build a small Nix community in Bern. I also don't see any problems with another Meetup, especially if they are 50 minutes apart. | 17:17:34 |
