@viktor:kleen.orgViktorI guess most importantly, what would SCION mean in the long run for my single user AS11:49:15
@matthewcroughan:defenestrate.itmatthewcroughanI think SCION probably doesn't impact net neutrality positively or negatively11:49:48
@matthewcroughan:defenestrate.itmatthewcroughanIt gives ISPs more control over the flow of traffic, but also the user at the same time11:50:14
@matthewcroughan:defenestrate.itmatthewcroughanSince it is multipath you would just get two ISPs and use the available paths they give you right? That can only be a good thing.11:50:53
@viktor:kleen.orgViktorwould it impact ISPs such as telekom that like to leverage there user base to make peering a profit center?11:51:11

Probably, since it encourages path diversity, and multipath

@ners:nixos.devners

Meetup.com has increased their price from $10 to $20 per month, so I'm considering moving our group to a self-hosted libre platform. das-g has already suggested this in the past, and this price increase is a nice excuse to finally do it.

Any suggestions what we could use?

I do wonder if we won't lose out on discoverability then, how many people found the group through meetup?
09:34:51
@infinisil:matrix.orginfinisilCould maybe do a poll09:35:08
@infinisil:matrix.orginfinisilThis would be the same reason why we're still using GitHub09:35:29

My anecdotal experience so far has been that very few people find the group through Meetup, because a) few people use meetup to begin with (many new Nixers register on meetup just to attend our events), and b) meetup's own discoverability is really suboptimal. If you put "nix zurich" in meetup's search, you can't find our group unless you know the UI very well.

@nerevarthelord:matrix.orgnerevarthelord I'm a newbie here and I am here thanks to meetup.com.
I was just looking around for some nerd meetups and found nixers group there. Have never heard of nix before that, but now I'm interested in learning it further and trying it.
If you want this kind of "fresh fish" joining - I think meetup.com is a good source for those. Otherwise, if you're looking only for experienced Linuxoids - it might be worth replacing meetup group with a gemini site :)

I've heard more hackerspace moving away from meetup for this reason. Also closed source, so no fun :-)
