@blaggacao:matrix.orgDavid Arnold (blaggacao) Btw. I find it intriguing that "processes" and "traditions" are part of the same spectrum of how people organize. 😂 14:45:40
@blaggacao:matrix.orgDavid Arnold (blaggacao) Maybe "processes" are just tools to chase traditions around. But when it comes to certification processes, could we start thinking our way up from our current traditions? 14:50:50

Is anybody familiar with how "certification" works in traditional craftsman professions throughout Europe? (I have somewhat of an idea how that works in Germany.) It seems that this "guilde" processes and traditions "to become a professional" have been emerging and establishing over time, maybe not too unsimilar to how OSS ecosystems evolve...
Traditional craftsman professions in here require some time of practice + school which gives you certifications after you graduate from that (Eastern Europe - most of the countries + Russia)

after that - you can open your own 'company' of some kind providing the service

@kunrooted:matrix.orgkunrootedI dunno if it answers your question, I'm not English native, sorry if I misunderstood something.15:04:09
@blaggacao:matrix.orgDavid Arnold (blaggacao)Do we have a certifiable name? "Nix Craftsman" (TM)? 😂15:07:47
@kunrooted:matrix.orgkunrooted

I had some "stupid" ideas:

  • CNE - Certified Nix Engineer
  • CNOSA - Certfied NixOS Administrator/ CNO - Certified NixOps
  • CFE - Certified Flakes Engineer
    😂

@blaggacao:matrix.orgDavid Arnold (blaggacao)Yeah, maybe we can't get our way around acronyms to be taken seriously by HR Signal Receivers.15:10:59
@blaggacao:matrix.orgDavid Arnold (blaggacao)(HRSR) 😂15:11:12
@blaggacao:matrix.orgDavid Arnold (blaggacao)CNCFJ - Certified Nix Crfatsman For Java15:13:35
@blaggacao:matrix.orgDavid Arnold (blaggacao)CNCFOS - Certified Nix Craftsman for Operating Systems15:14:11
@blaggacao:matrix.orgDavid Arnold (blaggacao)* CNCFOS - Certified Nix Craftsman For Operating Systems15:14:20
@kunrooted:matrix.orgkunrooted

I mean, given the fact that some cybersec certs are:

  • OSCP = Offensive Security Certified Professional
  • OSWP = Offensive Security Wireless Professional
  • OSEP = Offensive Security Certified Expert

and so on...
maybe our acronyms aren't that bad at all

15:15:02
@kunrooted:matrix.orgkunrootedbut really, I wish to see the idea of Nix certs further considered 15:15:23
@blaggacao:matrix.orgDavid Arnold (blaggacao) CNC-* could be the brand component. 15:15:34
@blaggacao:matrix.orgDavid Arnold (blaggacao) cnc.nix.org 15:15:47
@kunrooted:matrix.orgkunrootedI also agree with what Gytis said earlier, we need to find a company which will be in charge of the certification process, and I also agree that the obv. candidate is Tweag 15:16:04
@blaggacao:matrix.orgDavid Arnold (blaggacao)But maybe such program is also European grant fundable?15:16:39
@blaggacao:matrix.orgDavid Arnold (blaggacao)* But maybe such program is also European grant fundable? (Hosted by a company for efficiency)15:17:01
@kunrooted:matrix.orgkunrootedmight be - European funds are really cool and they support such ideas a lot15:17:24
@kunrooted:matrix.orgkunrooted the only thing I have left in my mind is - how do we make this option considered more seriously - by that I mean, how do we actually might make it happen and my best idea for now was literally emailing Tweag 🥴 15:18:32

Maybe such company needs to hire or identify a care-taker within their ranks.
15:19:58
@kunrooted:matrix.orgkunrootedI really dunno - the only contact I had with certification companies was when I was crying looking at cybersec certification course + exam fees and when I do gun license course15:20:57
@blaggacao:matrix.orgDavid Arnold (blaggacao) B2B selling is hard. What's the buying center? 15:21:03
@blaggacao:matrix.orgDavid Arnold (blaggacao)I'd assume a positive opinion will come from HR within those organizations. But the influence of HR is also sometimes limited.15:21:50
