| Hey, currently nixos.org doesn't really show a lot about nixos as distribution and the new page doesn't either https://main--nixos-homepage.netlify.app/ so I wanted to chime in a bit: If NixOS was more show cased on nixos.org I would have probably started using it ~1.5 years earlier. I remember taking a glance at nixos.org once and not finding the examples interesting, but I got hooked after someone telling me about how they fiddled around with their config and getting kernel panics and just being able to boot a old generation and everything working again. | 20:32:35 | |
| there is a lot more cool and awesome things about the distribution we could showcase, like being easily able to reuse and share configs, very comfortable server deployments, using conditions in your config. | 20:44:12 | |
| oh btw the download page is also a bit meh https://nixos.org/download like on a 1920x1080 panel it doesn't show the nixos download without scrolling and I have seen multiple people getting confused by it the first they tried to install nixos. | 20:45:48 | |
| that confuses me every time | 20:47:56 | |

| Thanks Janik (they/them) for your suggestion, thats a good point | 01:21:20 | |
| IWhile you're mentioning it, I recently had the idea to give the user some kind of wizard to choose what they want. Like:
Of course this would require a fallback, which could maybe realized by some subpage with content as seen now. What do you (the whole channel) think? | 01:24:57
In reply to @avocadoom:avocadoom.dethat's only the download page right? If sounds good as long as it's realizable without client side javascript but with stable urls so you can link to some specific section. | 01:27:26

| Omitting client side JS in favot of full page reloads for everyone would result in a pretty clumsy UX, since the page would always have to reload for an input, but for sure this can be some kind of fallback mode | 01:29:31 | |
| and yeah, of course the "results" would also be stored in their specific and distinguishable URLS | 01:30:02 | |
| That's still not really addressing the thing about not finding much about nixos as distribution on nixos.org, what is the general sentiment in the marketing team concerning that topic? | 01:41:01 | |
| This was not meant as a solution for your first point :D | 01:42:06 | |
| I don't know, we didn't talk about that as this is or was not on the table for the website at the moment. But as soon as we are done with switching stacks I think we can start talking about that | 01:43:05 | |
In reply to @avocadoom:avocadoom.deThat's fair, but I'm still curious if there were discussions about it in the past/if there is any prior history to the topic 🙈 | 01:47:16

In reply to @janik0:matrix.org I hear you! The current work on the website I just the first step. We'll finally be able to really work with the website and not lose too much time to do little changes. Personally my goal is to bring NixOS on the website at least by next NixCon, well I hope sooner. If you would like to help out with this I'd really welcome you to join us on the marketing team calls. | 21:16:03
