raboof | I saw - and I trust matthewcroughan but it seems weird to have it under someone's personal domain | 08:25:33 |
Jonas Chevalier | One risk is cross-site scripting attacks become easier with sub-domains. That's why github moved the GH pages from github.com to github.io for example. It's not a direct risk, but at scale it could become an issue. Maybe matthew is willing to donate the domain to the foundation, or we pick a new domain? | 08:57:55 |
raboof | that's a reasonable consideration (though with https://nixos.org not hosting much 'dynamic' things we might not have 'github-level' risks). '.ug' is cute but for something 'official' it might be better not to use a country TLD. Something under nix.dev could also be an option, or indeed a new domain | 09:19:49 |
raboof | oh or under https://nix-community.org might make sense - not quite official but perhaps sensible for this purpose | 09:28:57 |
fricklerhandwerk | The overarching issue here seems to be: https://github.com/NixOS/org/issues/80
IIRC the implicit consensus is to converge on running everything official under nixos.org to avoid confusion as to what belongs to whom. So if we ever had a blessed place for user groups, it would be a subdomain there. Until then I think the implicit consensus is that nix.ug is the place for user groups, and I trust matthewcroughan to run it well

@federicodschonborn:matrix.org | Hi, in view of recent events related to the LLM built into Twitter, I think it may be moment to reconsider if you still want to have a presence on that site | 22:07:44 |
