Pol | I'm also against the message posted on Mastodon. I don't like the idea that Nix is associated to military stuff, it leaves a bad taste in the mouth... I would not have posted such a message. | 20:08:25 |
Guillaume Desforges | Taking the risk to be roasted: per-se I'm not against military sponsorship. However (I'm not saying it's the case or not here, I have not researched), I would not like the NixOS Foundation to support publicly any company that was guilty of going against human rights. Again, I don't know for Anduril, haven't checked. | 20:14:08 |

Pol | Maybe I'm making bad shortcuts and correct me if I'm wrong but most of the things related to the word "military" means death. That's the reason why I was so pissed off seeing than toot today. | 20:16:01 |

Guillaume Desforges | What the reactions do tell, I think, is that what a bunch of people (@garbas IIRC) have said is right; we need a policy for public announcements, and a part of it could entail communication about companies. | 20:16:43 |
f0x | fucking hell https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anduril_Industries#Criticism_and_controversies | 20:17:36 |
f0x | glad im not visiting nixcon, this is a terrible look | 20:17:52 |
Pol | That's a sensible matter... and it's the first time I see an opensource project promoting such kind of sponsor. But hey... this is just my 2 cents and my "hot" reaction to this. | 20:19:14 |

- Nix community should be a place without conflicts and divisions, a place where people from all over the world can come and put war to the side, Andruil is actively supporting war and is profiting off of the suffering of innocent people. Military is inherently devising, is this something we want in our community?
- Andruil works with the US military, the US military has committed acts against humanity.

Not to say a policy wouldn't be helpful, but not sure it'd help here. | 20:43:46 |
@kranzes:matrix.org | Before we even got all the sponsors I mentioned that I would like to not get Andruil and other military-field companies involved, I don't want their money if it was made by profiting of the suffering of innocent people. I am frustrated that we didn't do anything about it in time, and even more because we prompted them on our social media. | 20:44:39 |

Guillaume Desforges | I guess you have a point, given that public announcement is part of the sponsorship. But then, if there was a policy for the Marketing team about announcement which was public, NixCon organizers would be able to adapt the sponsorship packages to these policies. | 20:48:19 |
Guillaume Desforges | (we both agree that the NixOS Foundation needs policies for its public communication :) ) | 20:48:57 |

@kranzes:matrix.org | * Before we even got all the sponsors finalized (as in, changes could still be made even if the sponsor was accepted, due to the sponsorship acceptation still being open) I mentioned that I would like to not get Andruil and other military-field companies involved, I don't want their money if it was made by profiting of the suffering of innocent people. Jonas Chevalier | garbas: is it possible to edit https://chaos.social/@nixos_org/111007010535962541 to say that we dropped as a sponsor? | 12:01:42 |
Jonas Chevalier | yeah, I don't have an opinion on this. Should I delete the nixcon_org account then? | 12:02:30 |
