hexa | I'm wondering if pushing community artwork to the wiki was a good plan | 00:13:22 |
hexa | given that https://wiki.nixos.org/wiki/Artwork remains empty for now | 00:13:45 |
hexa | and distribution of media content and source files is not really the strong suite of mediawiki | 00:14:09 |
hexa | people were happy with git, why don't we give them another git somewhere instead? | 00:14:25 |
das-g | Maybe in https://github.com/nix-community ? | 00:17:23 |
hexa | sure, why not | 00:17:32 |
hexa | could even transfer the currently archived artwork repo | 00:18:09 |
djacu | The wiki seemed like a good choice for a few reasons. It is community controlled so anyone can create an account and contribute without having to wait on someone with merge authority. There were several PRs that were opened years ago. Community art should be curated in a community driven space and not in official repos IMO. Mediawiki pages can be styled with gallery templates which is nice for showcasing all the artwork. And you don't need to clone 1.4 GB of data just to get the one wallpaper you like.
It seemed like a good idea at the time.
But if the nix-community org wants to take on a community driven artwork repo. 👍️ Go for it. | 01:54:22 |
das-g | Those are still good reasons. Maybe the option to put artwork to the wiki (at least for show-casing — it could still link to repo(s) with the source files) could/should be promoted some more? | 10:13:55 |

raboof | I could imagine it's not always super clear whether something is an "official asset" or "community artwork" - everyone likes their thing to be 'official' ofc ;) | 10:26:27 |
raboof | for the matrix icons it's not just simple images, it's a 'source' svn and a bunch of code to generate the actual artifacts for it | 10:27:12 |
Sigmanificient | In reply to @aleksana:mozilla.org poster.png The design is minimal but it feel very nice! | 16:28:39 |
