samueldr |
We want to strive to create and foster community by providing an intentionally welcoming and safe environment where all feel valued and cared for, and where all are given opportunity to participate meaningfully.
| 04:22:46 |
samueldr | glad to see a place where harrassers are free to participate in this welcoming and safe environment is still not subject to removal | 04:24:06 |

nat-418 | In reply to @djacu:matrix.org Also can we schedule a meeting for next week since the release is coming up? when is the next meeting? | 08:36:07 |
avocadoom | Well, good morning | 08:40:32 |
avocadoom | What have I missed? | 08:40:38 |
avocadoom | In reply to @nat418:matrix.org when is the next meeting? 5th of June | 08:41:25 |
avocadoom | 9pm CET | 08:41:35 |
nat-418 | per the concerns of samueldr and hexa I have a PR that does what I think is actually reasonable here: https://github.com/NixOS/nixos-homepage/pull/1441 | 08:49:37 |
nat-418 | I am willing to add in the other stuff other people wanted, but I think it would be good to reflect on whether or not all that is actually needed | 08:49:58 |
avocadoom | So removing Reddit is a thing that was mostly agreed on, Discord was discussed but not really agreed on, but why did you remove Mastodon, Twitter and stack overflow? The discussion came up with a better solution there | 09:02:12 |
nat-418 | In reply to @avocadoom:avocadoom.de So removing Reddit is a thing that was mostly agreed on, Discord was discussed but not really agreed on, but why did you remove Mastodon, Twitter and stack overflow? The discussion came up with a better solution there The Mastodon, Twitter, and Stack overflow links aren't really communities but just like hashtags or search results | 09:12:50 |
nat-418 | SO in particular is in a deep downward spiral | 09:13:05 |
nat-418 | Twitter link doesn't work anymore since Musk API changes | 09:13:21 |
nat-418 | and mastodon is just a hashtag | 09:13:32 |
nat-418 | I don't think people need to be told that they can search the word "nixos" on SO or lookup a hashtag. I don't see any value-add | 09:14:27 |
nat-418 | * I don't think people need to be told that they can search the word "nixos" on SO or lookup a hashtag on X . I don't see any value-add | 09:14:41 |
nat-418 | I am planning to add back some of the "unofficial" stuff later but I need to take my kid to the playground | 09:15:14 |
nat-418 | I basically un-drafted the PR so I could get feedback | 09:15:32 |
avocadoom | In reply to @nat418:matrix.org I don't think people need to be told that they can search the word "nixos" on SO or lookup a hashtag on X . I don't see any value-add The issue suggested maybe switching the hashtags for the Nixos profiles | 09:24:39 |
garbas | In reply to @avocadoom:avocadoom.de So removing Reddit is a thing that was mostly agreed on, Discord was discussed but not really agreed on, but why did you remove Mastodon, Twitter and stack overflow? The discussion came up with a better solution there Reddit links stays as do other unofficial links. We will mark them as unofficial. | 09:56:43 |
garbas | * Reddit links stays as do other unofficial links. We will mark them as unofficial and make it obvious what is moderated and what is not. | 09:57:19 |
garbas | A community in the eyes of marketing is different what community is in the eyes of moderation. We need to show and will where different parts of the community are. There are definitely problems with nixos reddit, but if anybody thinks unlinking them from nixos org will solve the problem they are wrong. We have already more than half a year of evidence to support this. Unlinking to nixos reddit should not be the first step and right now new users receive more support there than anywhere else. Especially for those who are regulars on that platform. | 10:02:40 |
@qyliss:fairydust.space | I've never heard of a marketing team before that doesn't care at all about brand image in the way that this one seems not to. Usually marketers are very careful about what gets associated with their brand. | 10:05:40 |
avocadoom | I personally cannot accept the accusation that I am not making an effort to improve the image of the board... This is just a brutally heated discussion and getting everyone to a conclusion is just not that easy | 10:34:35 |
@qyliss:fairydust.space | Sorry, that's not what I meant. | 10:35:03 |

@qyliss:fairydust.space | What I meant was that definitive statements like locking the issue, definitively saying "Reddit links stays" when that doesn't even seem to be consensus among members of the team, etc. create this impression of the team. I did not mean that I think this is what the members of the team actually personally think. | 10:39:03 |
