A lot of very active community members (myself included) are disappointed that anduril was allowed to sponsor again, esp. after last years debacle.

How:

• policy discussion in Fall/Winter
• no official policy adopted, I proposed one and said we would use it in the interim
• When sponsorship came up, we reached out to as many potential sponsors as possible.
• Brought up the consideration with the NixConNA team.
• Brought up the consideration with our hosts, SCALE
• When Anduril suggested they would be willing to sponsor; I yet again checked with NixConNA team
• then checked with the Board if this would want to proceed given the history and sensitivity

Why:

• no clear policy reason to avoid, no "Zivilklausel" due to the venue
• no policy proposal under consideration that would disallow
• the Board can refuse, and was discussed and decided
• Personally; I don't think the mere avoidance of controversy is a strong enough reason to have unstated policies and selective decisions made. We should establish a policy-driven methodology for decision making. Perhaps avoiding controversy can be a policy, though I do not necessarily recommend it.
