In reply to @rosscomputerguy:matrix.orgWhat's the goal of the trial? | 19:33:07
In reply to @djacu:matrix.orgTo see how it impacts the visibility of groups | 19:33:34
| I assume that we're trying to use meetup to make finding groups easier | 19:33:57 | |
In reply to @rosscomputerguy:matrix.org It would be interesting to see how much of an impact that has. @zrsk any notion of how different people came to find your meetup? Was it through meetup, word of mouth, official spaces, or something else? Also 94 members! Nice! :D | 19:42:20

In reply to @djacu:matrix.orgYeah, I think it's a better way to justify the cost. If we do go ahead, we should also get a count of how many groups we'd expect to have. | 19:43:59
| During our last meetup (last Saturday), we discussed whether to stop using Meetup. Many mentioned that they originally discovered us through the platform. We don’t have statistically significant data, as attendance varies between 10 and 20 participants, and the group composition changes frequently. We are currently exploring alternative tools such as Eventbrite and Luma and plan to start tracking engagement to evaluate whether the investment in Meetup is worthwhile. Overall, I'd say word of mouth has been the strongest driver of growth for the Milan community so far | 20:47:22 | |
In reply to @albertodvp:matrix.orgInteresting, though this is 1 data point. Which is why I'm thinking a trial thing would be a good way to see with 3 groups. | 20:48:45
| If it is that promising and the cost isn't ridiculously, we probably could justify it. | 20:49:53 | |

| @raboof: retries aren't working either | 22:57:39 | |

| that's weird - https://chaos.social/@nixos_org/113952112038006234 seems to have gone through now, though? | 09:16:00 | |
In reply to @rosscomputerguy:matrix.org For comparison, the Zurich group uses meetup primarily for attendance planning. Most visibility is derived from other means. So to be clear, my underlying reasoning is: how can we help reduce friction and increase wellbeing for local groups? If the lack of a good, affordable online tool for coordination is a bottleneck, there may be multiple ways of addressing that. | 11:03:22
| I'd love an open/selfhostable platform to allow people to 'follow' groups and get notified when we plan a new one. I looked briefly at https://mobilizon.fr/ and found it a bit confusing, but perhaps I should have a second/closer look ;) | 11:46:45 | |

In reply to @raboof:matrix.orgWe’d even have budget via the NGI collaboration to polish the deployment experience | 12:10:46

| raboof: I'm still having issues with the mastodon posting from Buffer. Any ideas? | 13:27:20 | |
| pretty weird, indeed I see failed posts from 9 days ago and just now, but the post from 5 days ago seems to have made it just fine (https://chaos.social/@nixos_org/113952112038006234) | 13:30:00 | |
| OK I think I figured it out (but you're not going to like it): it seems the buffer 'retry' functionality fails if the post was scheduled for the past. So I updated the scheduled date and then I could send the toots, https://chaos.social/@nixos_org/ 🎉 | 13:34:28 | |
| Nice! I guess that makes sense... thanks! | 13:35:09 | |

| Eventbrite is quite cool unless you have to deal with a waiting list. Lu.ma seems small and relatively new. I also know about joinmobilizon.org (funded by NLnet and NGI-0), though it's not very popular. Sometimes, organizers use Facebook events for the same purpose. I’m not sure if I can achieve anything in this regard, but I can try to find out if Meetup makes any effort to support non-profits—if you give me the green light. | 19:28:31 | |
| oh, thanks! I've missed that :/ | 19:28:50 | |
