@nixinator:nixos.dev | Ok, so for nix , do you think 20 years is enough to avoid success . | 02:57:23 |

@nixinator:nixos.dev | In reply to @tomberek:matrix.org https://youtu.be/re96UgMk6GQ?t=1383 Ok , I understand now it has been being being devekoped for 20 years, flakes change the game. It’s now time to upgrade this bit of philosophy from Haskell .I want nix to be successful no matter what the cost. | 07:39:02 |
@nixinator:nixos.dev | The nixos marking faq says ‘we always avoid success’ as the terminator would say ‘WRONG’ | 07:41:38 |
@nixinator:nixos.dev | * The nixos marking faq says ‘we always avoid success’ as the terminator would say ‘WRONG’ lol | 07:41:59 |
@nixinator:nixos.dev | * Ok , I understand now it has been being developed for 20 years, flakes change the game. It’s now time to upgrade this bit of philosophy from Haskell .I want nix to be successful no matter what the cost. | 07:45:04 |
Guillaume Desforges | In reply to @nixinator:nixos.dev Ok , I understand now it has been being developed for 20 years, flakes change the game. It’s now time to upgrade this bit of philosophy from Haskell .I want nix to be successful no matter what the cost. I agree that Nix does not have to "avoid success at any cost". Unlike Haskell, Nix is very simple. We can look at code from 5, 10, 20 years from now and understand it/run it. Also it's not that much about research anymore. So Nix does not have the same issues and questions. We can take what Nix is now and make it successful. | 07:48:59 |
Guillaume Desforges | However, that might be different for NixOS. Would a symlink at /bin/bash make it more successful? I bet, yes. Is it the best solution? Many people argue it is not. Should we cut corners to facilitate adoption ? Maybe | 07:50:31 |
Guillaume Desforges | In any case, as i understand, it's not about the tech. The marketing is about getting people into the adoption funnel and provide feedback on that funnel | 07:51:24 |
Guillaume Desforges | * In any case, as i understand, it's not about the tech. The marketing is about getting people into the adoption funnel and provide feedback on that funnel to the other teams | 07:51:37 |
Guillaume Desforges | (i can be corrected here) | 07:52:06 |
@nixinator:nixos.dev | What I’ve been hearing in the field , you are essentially right. | 07:52:47 |
@nixinator:nixos.dev | I believe the front page of nixos.org should say. Nix, it beats the pants off everything else. | 07:55:50 |
@nixinator:nixos.dev | Simple. | 07:56:11 |
@nixinator:nixos.dev | Not my words | 07:56:42 |
Guillaume Desforges | In reply to @nixinator:nixos.dev I believe the front page of nixos.org should say. Nix, it beats the pants off everything else. That I disagree. You don't become great by belittling others. You show, don't tell. | 07:57:57 |

@nixinator:nixos.dev | Really? This Belittling language is quite common place here. Who coined that ? | 07:59:47 |
@nixinator:nixos.dev | You don’t need to tell me I I know. | 08:00:21 |
@nixinator:nixos.dev | * You don’t need to tell me I know. | 08:00:32 |
@nixinator:nixos.dev | Anyway gotta goto work… toodle pip . | 08:00:52 |
Guillaume Desforges | I'm fresh and new so you do need to tell me "who coined that" and we can work on it together. | 08:01:57 |
@nixinator:nixos.dev | You need to think about belittling. It’s a charged word. Marketing it about selling the sizzle , not that sausage. | 08:04:04 |
@nixinator:nixos.dev | It’s about inpact | 08:04:24 |
@nixinator:nixos.dev | Fun, and getting attention | 08:04:35 |
@nixinator:nixos.dev | I don’t see that with org official marketing. It’s dull , wordy and uninteresting , but I think that’s just historical . I think it’s served brilliantly .. and who ever did I commend them. | 08:06:04 |
@nixinator:nixos.dev | For volunteers its incredibly amazing | 08:06:42 |
@nixinator:nixos.dev | So I’m here singing everyones praises . The rust marketing is absolutely top notch. | 08:07:53 |
@nixinator:nixos.dev | However I think they may pay for that service. | 08:08:23 |
