ecmacat | Hi, is there any plan to restyle nixos search? It is currently using Bootstrap 2 which is EOL 10 years ago | 10:02:56 |
tea | I don't think its of the most importance. Of course it can be done but I think some would objectg | 14:25:42 |

tea | People here don't like changing things if they're not explicitly broken | 14:25:58 |
tea | One (read: I) could even argue that bootstrap is way overkill for a simple webui like that | 14:26:19 |
garbas | In reply to @ecmacat:matrix.org Hi, is there any plan to restyle nixos search? It is currently using Bootstrap 2 which is EOL 10 years ago Yes. We're going to make it look similar to nixos.org ... but the progress stalled. But - at least for me - it is on the 2023 todo list :) | 20:15:13 |

tea | I can help if you want | 17:01:57 |
tea | did it stall on design or development? | 17:02:06 |

okeydokeyartichokey | I wonder if we have ever considered reaching out to MSFT to bundle nix with WSL in return for support | 08:20:40 |
okeydokeyartichokey | [crazy idea of the day] | 08:20:51 |
tea | wdym in return for support? | 15:09:36 |
tea | just port nix to win and replace winget with it | 15:10:54 |

okeydokeyartichokey | replace apt-get or a companion to apt-get for wsl | 23:41:38 |
okeydokeyartichokey | the latter really | 23:41:44 |

matthewcroughan - nix.zone | Supporting native Windows seems like a waste of engineering resources, unless some dedicated people want to do it | 09:17:36 |
matthewcroughan - nix.zone | Especially since WSL exists, and Microsoft maintain that, because even they realize that Windows isn't worth supporting | 09:17:58 |

matthewcroughan - nix.zone | Not sure if good marketing, but I made a flake for this guy who tried to reproduce some 6 year old Rust code, unprompted. Wonder if he'll appreciate it or not. | 12:59:03 |

@rapenne-s:tchncs.de | In my peertube reupload of "What's new in Nix 2.8.0 - 2.12.0?", I got a puzzling comment 😅 https://videos.pair2jeux.tube/w/5oUYt2VQfiQwQyohbR2ifD;threadId=89325
I know its not the aim of this video but I still don’t understand what is "NixOS"? It call itself an OS the descriptions says its a package manager. Is it a full OS? A Linux distribution? A package manager like apt? If it’s a package manager can I use it only on certain distrib or on any one I want?
I think this tells good about how nix is perceived from people at first glance | 09:50:39 |
matthewcroughan - nix.zone | This is the common problem of the "Nix Trinity". People don't ask "What is the difference between Arch and Pacman", this is an easy one to demystify. The fact that they ask the question is good, because it means they're curious and-or interested. | 13:10:55 |
matthewcroughan - nix.zone | I do not think we should try to eliminate it, I think this is the initial intrigue that people have with NixOS. | 13:11:18 |
