@skeuchel:matrix.orgSteven Keuchel* I used to compile firefox natively before. But now webkit, which is a dep of firefox, is quite broken on risc-v. I think build time only dep.09:11:14
@qyliss:fairydust.spaceAlyssa Rossno update on HDMI for six months09:11:33
@qyliss:fairydust.spaceAlyssa Ross… what about mainline support on the DeepComputing Framework board?12:37:31

mostly I want to test generic OS images I'm building, so only systems with good mainline support are really interesting
the VF2 / JH7110 SoC is mostly mainlined https://rvspace.org/en/project/JH7110_Upstream_Plan

I can ask about that, I know the founder of DeepComputing

@rosscomputerguy:matrix.orgTristan RossHe mentioned things will at least be open sourced14:00:09
@qyliss:fairydust.spaceAlyssa RossI mean I'd hope the kernel changes would be open source, they're legally required to be14:00:37

I was wondering about things specific to that board though, like what about the framework display?
14:01:31
@qyliss:fairydust.spaceAlyssa Rossis that covered in that table? I don't know how it works14:01:46
@roedimqf:ruhr-uni-bochum.de@roedimqf:ruhr-uni-bochum.de The Ky X1 (M1 clone) is comparble cheap and has vector support.
Mainline support is bare at best as of today, though there is a lot of activity on the mailing list (so people are working on it)

@rosscomputerguy:matrix.orgTristan RossI have the 64GB RAM / 1TB option on order so at least this should do well for RISC-V stuff heh.14:05:10
@rosscomputerguy:matrix.orgTristan Ross Though my VisionFive2 is finally half way done with compiling after it taking a week 14:06:08

https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/arch/riscv/boot/dts/starfive/jh7110-deepcomputing-fml13v01.dts looks very basic

@rosscomputerguy:matrix.orgTristan Ross https://github.com/DC-DeepComputing/DC-linux/blob/dc-master/arch/riscv/boot/dts/starfive/jh7110-deepcomputing-fml13v01.dts DC has more in their downstream fork 14:15:34
@rosscomputerguy:matrix.orgTristan Ross Hopefully they upstream things more 14:17:11
@qyliss:fairydust.spaceAlyssa Rosshttps://lore.kernel.org/all/?q=fml13v01 looks relatively promising14:19:55
@rosscomputerguy:matrix.orgTristan Ross Yeah, looks good 14:24:30

That's a heck of a long compile time!
It's been a week, I estimated about 8 days and it looks like it'll take that long
14:54:36
@dramforever:matrix.orgdramforever @rosscomputerguy:matrix.org one week continuous building? best advertisement for visionfive 2 i've heard 16:52:24
@alex:tunstall.xyzAlex I have sometimes had >1w up times, but I've never seen 2w uptimes.
I'm not sure if it would die because of overheating (passive cooling at 1.5 GHz and non-working thermal throttling) or instability.
16:54:01
@dramforever:matrix.orgdramforeverpassive cooling is sufficient for jh7110 unless your nvme is absolutely toasty16:54:35
@dramforever:matrix.orgdramforeveryou can also just monitor the temps16:58:13
@alex:tunstall.xyzAlex

Hm I think I did once and saw that it wasn't an overheat that killed it.
It was a while ago so I can't remember very well.

At the moment, I having bigger problems to deal with (like extremely inconsistent booting, possibly due to broken kernels).
