@thefossguy:matrix.orgPratham Patel (you can mention me)there are a million (hyperbole) Indian startups doing exactly that!14:34:52
@thefossguy:matrix.orgPratham Patel (you can mention me)the last tenstorrent event almost a year ago in BLR was exactly that :)14:35:15
@sorear:matrix.orgsorearit's hard to exhaustively test anything of that size, especially when the specs themselves are nondeterministic (memory ordering, counters) or just plain ambiguous14:37:22

Yes, that's very fair. I'd expect some amount of testing to be possible by exploiting a deep understanding of the processor design, but that's by no means simple.
14:39:43
@sorear:matrix.orgsorearthe interesting bugs all happen because somebody miscommunicated or misunderstood the requirements14:40:34
@thefossguy:matrix.orgPratham Patel (you can mention me)one thing I--as a software guy and a negative XP in hardware--understand is, at that point, you're not just verifying the RISC-V ISA but also the microarchitecture :)14:40:47
* @thefossguy:matrix.orgPratham Patel (you can mention me) is afk for dinner14:40:54
@sorear:matrix.orgsorearthe ISA is what it is. it can be stupid or contradictory but not wrong, because there's nothing for it to be wrong against14:41:37

If you really want some decent remote desktop experience, I would recommend wayvnc (or others), rather than this poorly packaged xrdp.
I tried to install wayvnc, it fails with modemmanager build failing to find python. For now I’ve built image w/o VNC, I’ll try to build VNC on board.

@fgaz:matrix.orgfgaz Scaleway now hosts RV servers based on the TH1520 https://labs.scaleway.com/en/em-rv1/ 13:16:48
@fgaz:matrix.orgfgazMaybe this is enough for some temporary nix-community builders?13:17:17

@thefossguy:matrix.orgPratham Patel (you can mention me)One more thing, as per Sipeed, it is likely that the SG2380 (the 16 core chip) might be ready in this year. https://x.com/sipeedio/status/176339190104946310313:59:47
@thefossguy:matrix.orgPratham Patel (you can mention me)Not sure how much I believe it, considering that the initial spec has been modified (in a good way) which is likely to cause delays in things like verification and manufacturing.14:00:30
@thefossguy:matrix.orgPratham Patel (you can mention me)Could be a marketing "stunt" (I don't think so and i hope not) but Milk-V Oasis (the first product announced to have been using the SG2380) was planned to launch in Q4 of 2024.14:01:59
@thefossguy:matrix.orgPratham Patel (you can mention me)But that announcement about Oasis was before the silicon was modified for improvements14:02:16
@thefossguy:matrix.orgPratham Patel (you can mention me)So I'm not really sure14:02:20
@thefossguy:matrix.orgPratham Patel (you can mention me)Hoping it happens sooner, but I'd be happy with a few months of delay for an errata free product, hell even pay a few hundred USD more for not wasting hundreds of USDs for a buggy product14:03:14

@thefossguy:matrix.orgPratham Patel (you can mention me)This video shows the board running without any heatsink. Maybe I'm okay with "1.3x faster than ARM Cortex A55" performance... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ym-VcJgaGIY10:42:15
@skeuchel:matrix.orgSteven Keuchelso also first board with some cypto extension!?17:36:39

The lack of a complete list of supported extensions makes me doubt that it's any of the recently ratified cryptography extensions (is it called RVK?). It could be a custom extension, or just marketing nonsense because all of those can be implemented in software.
