John Ericson | So the conversation we have there should at least acknowledge the Corngood has received lots of feedback so far that his approach is a good first incremental step, and he's come here to ask about tarballs now because he has made amazing progress far faster than I, at least, I thought was going to happen on the basis of basically 1 person's effort | 17:48:26 |

John Ericson | * Indeed, after first I was excited contemplating switching from bash, etc., but Emily and Alyssa convinced me that doing that right away was irresponsible, and we have to take small steps | 17:57:43 |
Corngood | I also started a discussion on nix-community
https://github.com/orgs/nix-community/discussions/2025
What I'm working on seems quite similar to nix-darwin or nixbsd. Maybe part of it can live there? | 18:07:55 |
John Ericson | Corngood: this part is a nixpkgs question, but with modular services I would love to see your stuff go upstream | 18:11:04 |
John Ericson | modular services would benefit from an in-tree non-NixOS consumer of the module system | 18:11:25 |
John Ericson | (but my bad I see the discussion there is about caching too) | 18:12:24 |
Corngood | Yeah, agreed. I'm sort of building it that way for now, though it's not very sophisticated yet. | 18:12:32 |
tomberek | @corngood:corngood.com: is your problem right now that you just need SOME Hydra that you can use? | 23:29:27 |
Corngood | In reply to @tomberek:matrix.org @corngood:corngood.com: is your problem right now that you just need SOME Hydra that you can use? I'd say it's more that I need some public binary cache.
I'd like people to be able to test cygwin systems, but builds are extremely slow.
I think short-term the nix-community infra might be the best option.
I don't mind paying for a builder, but something with a level of trust in the community would be best I think. | 23:35:28 |

ungeskriptet | It seems like the reproduce script on hydra.nixos.org is broken. Is this issue known? | 11:59:33 |
ungeskriptet | When I fetch the script using curl https://hydra.nixos.org/build/196105693/reproduce I notice that the -A argument for nix-build is empty. | 12:00:30 |
