@leons:is.currently.online@leons:is.currently.online * Yeah, that is indeed much saner, but spending 2 days running the Vivado installer in a Nix derivation until it works tracks for me :D it's originally based on https://github.com/lukaslaobeyer/nix-fpgapkgs (Brad Bondurant this isn't really on topic for Hydra anymore, sent you a DM) 15:56:31

Hydra or perl? 😅
10:40:00
@qyliss:fairydust.spaceAlyssa Rosswell both, but I meant Hydra10:40:21
@ulrikstrid:matrix.org@ulrikstrid:matrix.orgHydra is actually much older than I thought, cool10:41:02
@janne.hess:helsinki-systems.dedas_jI think the question boils down to "why is anything written in anything?" and the answer is that somebody at some point in time thought of this solution as the best feasible solution 10:41:07

Yes, just curious if there was a definitive answer. I didn't realise it's more than 12 years old (even weirder is that 12 years ago is 2010 and not ~2000)

@trofi:matrix.orgtrofiWhat would it be written on if started today?10:59:57

Was nix initially written in perl? 🤔
11:01:38
@qyliss:fairydust.spaceAlyssa Rossbut C++ existed when Hydra was written11:01:48
@trofi:matrix.orgtrofiFetchers were probably in perl.11:02:11

No but you wouldn't write a webapp like hydra in c++
11:02:27
@qyliss:fairydust.spaceAlyssa RossI must have misunderstood your previous message then11:02:46

11:03:03
@janne.hess:helsinki-systems.dedas_jAlso yes, it partially was perl 11:03:23
@linus:schreibt.jetzt@linus:schreibt.jetztoh actually https://github.com/NixOS/nix/milestone/6?closed=1 is a better overview.11:04:06
@grahamc:nixos.org@grahamc:nixos.orgPerl has very little code that justifies being written in C++, I'm pretty sure it was picked for the website because it both had a popular web framework and the Nix contributors had experience13:48:52

@samueldr:matrix.orgsamueldram I alone in thinking it is a surprising behaviour when executing hydra with foreman that evals being affected by the ambiant NIX_PATH is surprising?04:47:45
@samueldr:matrix.orgsamueldr the eval used import <nixpkgs> {}, and nixpkgs was an input of the build (a git checkout) 04:48:44
