@maralorn:maralorn.demaralornI wonder if there will be a 8.10.5 stackage nightly before there will be a ghc 9 …10:46:34
@sternenseemann:systemli.orgsterni (he/him)didn't they say there will in the blog post you linked10:47:00
@maralorn:maralorn.demaralornBut probably we won‘t break too much by switching to 8.10.5 even if nightly doesn‘t?10:47:04
@sternenseemann:systemli.orgsterni (he/him)if one gets released10:47:04
@sternenseemann:systemli.orgsterni (he/him)I'd say we try it out10:47:24
@sternenseemann:systemli.orgsterni (he/him)I'm a bit scared though, there is a lot of GHC work suddenly pending10:48:02
@sternenseemann:systemli.orgsterni (he/him)9.2 has weird problems on darwin10:48:09
@maralorn:maralorn.demaralornThey said: We will release ghc 8.10.5 on LTS.10:48:26
@sternenseemann:systemli.orgsterni (he/him)and 8.10.5 ideally should be backported to 21.05 for aarch64-darwin support10:48:29
@maralorn:maralorn.demaralornNot sure if that implies a nightly release.10:48:42
@maralorn:maralorn.demaralorn sterni (he/him): I wouldn‘t worry about 9.2 too much at this moment. 10:49:40
@sternenseemann:systemli.orgsterni (he/him)ah I misremembered10:49:38
@sternenseemann:systemli.orgsterni (he/him)
releasing LTS 18 based on GHC 8.10.4 (or GHC 8.10.5, should it make an appearance) and
10:49:47
@sorki:vesp.czsorki joined the room.10:50:01
@sorki:vesp.czsorkire10:50:15
@maralorn:maralorn.demaralornWhat I did not understand is how much LTS is just a branch off from Nightly or a different beast …10:50:38
@sternenseemann:systemli.orgsterni (he/him) hi sorki :) 10:50:35
@maralorn:maralorn.demaralorn sterni (he/him): You wanted to merge a complete rebuild anyways, right? Maybe we can combine that with the switch to 8105? 10:51:38
@sternenseemann:systemli.orgsterni (he/him)yeah that would be my idea11:08:15
@sternenseemann:systemli.orgsterni (he/him)unfortunately I don't have the other change handy yet, but two rebuilds early in the rotation may not be too bad11:08:45
@sternenseemann:systemli.orgsterni (he/him)anyways I have 50 builds to wait for and then I'll merge11:08:57
@sternenseemann:systemli.orgsterni (he/him)unless someone sees something terrible in https://hydra.nixos.org/eval/1676148#tabs-still-fail (still have to mark stuff as broken ofc)11:09:29

No, looks sane.
11:20:07
@sternenseemann:systemli.orgsterni (he/him)starting to see failures because ppl are introducing lower bounds on GHC 9 standard libraries :'(11:20:58
@sternenseemann:systemli.orgsterni (he/him)how does the mark broken script react to queued builds 🤔11:23:12
@maralorn:maralorn.demaralorn sterni (he/him): It ignores them. 11:23:23
@sternenseemann:systemli.orgsterni (he/him)kk very good11:23:31
@cdepillabout:matrix.orgcdepillaboutIf I remember correclty, I think Peti once bumped the compiler version for a minor release (so like 8.8.3 to 8.8.4) before stackage did. I don't remember him having any big problems because of it. (But I also didn't really follow what he was doing very closely...)12:00:39
@sternenseemann:systemli.orgsterni (he/him)yeah bump looks good so far14:13:14
@sternenseemann:systemli.orgsterni (he/him)gonna do the merge in a bit, have a look at the release notes and then we give hydra something to wrok on :)14:13:41
