@ultra:beeper.comAlex SHi, cloud-native basically means you run stuff in containers instead of the host, right?15:48:01
@ultra:beeper.comAlex S If so, is there a tool that quickly spins up an ephemeral container with some packages, like nix run in a container? 15:48:36

there's nixos-shell which uses qemu https://github.com/Mic92/nixos-shell

@uep:matrix.orguep there's also the imperative mode of nixos-container 20:55:51

What is cloud. What is native. What is container. Things I ponder about daily

@arichtman:matrix.orgarichtman So I'm trying to use Flannel by way of Helm, but unfortunately its install method wants to write to a nix-store location in the HFS. Is there an idiomatic nix approach to this or should I rather adjust the Helm chart to expose the location as a configurable option? (or go back to using services.flannel) 04:44:33

@j4:matrix.orgj4m3sI don't think there any approach to dynamically add binary to the nix store (if i'm correct flannel wants to write some CNI binary, is that right?) I would change it in the helm chart or package the binaries as part of nix and deploy them that way. But then it might make maintenance more difficult since now you tie your kubernetes CNI updates to host updates as well. If that's clear enough :)15:01:43
