@rvdp:infosec.exchangeRamses 🇵🇸Is there no support in linux for realtek 8157 chips? I don't see the ID listed in https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/86731a2a651e58953fc949573895f2fa6d456841/drivers/net/usb/r8152.c#L1002411:05:15
@rvdp:infosec.exchangeRamses 🇵🇸Up to 8156 seems to be supported by that driver11:05:41
@k900:0upti.meK900https://lore.kernel.org/all/20241126022515.4043-6-hau@realtek.com/11:08:19
@k900:0upti.meK900Looks like there's a patch series11:08:24
@matthewcroughan:defenestrate.itmatthewcroughan - nix.zoneAre there any products using those new realtek chips in the wild yet?11:11:05
@k900:0upti.meK900Aliexpress has some11:11:17
@k900:0upti.meK900Or at least has some listed11:11:41
@matthewcroughan:defenestrate.itmatthewcroughan - nix.zoneI was hoping for some nice 10g unmanaged switches11:11:43
@k900:0upti.meK900And by some I mean three11:11:59
@k900:0upti.meK900That's not the same chip11:12:03
@k900:0upti.meK900RTL8157 is USB 3.2 to 5GbE11:12:08
@matthewcroughan:defenestrate.itmatthewcroughan - nix.zoneyeah it just reminded me, is all11:13:05
@k900:0upti.meK900The switch chips I have not seen anything with yet11:13:18
@k900:0upti.meK900But you'll see it on STH once it drops11:13:24
@k900:0upti.meK900Most likely11:13:25
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilythose Realtek 10G chips still don't look all that good to me11:47:36
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilythey seem to have power consumption comparable to the Broadcom thing11:47:42
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilythere are already lower-power PHY chips, they're just not in anything11:47:55
@emilazy:matrix.orgemily* there are already lower-power 10GBASE-T PHY chips, they're just not in anything11:48:00

My kernel mailing list search-foo is clearly not as good as yours, because I did search for that. How do you search in the mailing list? With the search field on lore, or in your mail client?
12:02:54
@k900:0upti.meK900Just typed "rtl8157" into the search box on lore12:03:11
@k900:0upti.meK900And got a hit12:03:15
@rvdp:infosec.exchangeRamses 🇵🇸Thanks in any case, I'll try applying those patches12:03:18
@rvdp:infosec.exchangeRamses 🇵🇸Hmm, I put 8157 and didn't find anything12:03:37
@k900:0upti.meK900Yeah it tokenizes weird12:03:46
