| Can someone from the marketing team come to the Zurich ZHF and UX workshop in November? We dearly missed representatives last time. https://discourse.nixos.org/t/2023-11-25-26-saturday-sunday-zhf-23-11-hackathon-and-governance-workshop-ost-zurich-rapperswil-jona/32359/2 | 16:17:05 | |

| * I'm going slightly mad trying to figure out the right way to pass my own module to cachix deploy. I think I'm trying to pass a module to this function https://github.com/cachix/cachix-deploy-flake/blob/347933f81e9212cb98b78b6529e86fd810fcf8ae/flake.nix#L54C31-L54C31 I have imported my file, which takes a couple of arguments and returns a module. How am I supposed to call cachix-deploy-lib.nixos with my module? I'm currently trying: mc-nixos = cachix-deploy-lib.nixos { module = mod; }; and being told error: The option `module' does not exist. | 17:46:53 | |

| what is the marketing strategy here? | 18:28:39 | |
| is it appropriate to promote copyright infringement, and push polical stances? | 18:29:46 | |
| That is pushing several boundaries for what should be promoted. At least it's not something that we should re-post blindly. | 18:36:31 | |

| Lmao | 19:01:25 | |
| (I guess I wasn't paying attention, didn't think there would be copyright infringement as the post mentioned 'content you legally own', and kinda missed the flag/hashtag. Thx for the headsup) | 19:02:28 | |

| Just thinking out loud, but would you be interested in talking to someone who has experience in marketing and who could help create a branding strategy? Right now the social media accounts feel like they are posting whatever comes up in their circle or Discourse. It feels a bit all over the place instead of being connected by a thread or a story. Like, what would be a look and feel that we can love and connect to? | 08:42:16 | |
| Jonas Chevalier: There are levels to branding strategy and it all has to do how much money/time we have. The branding strategy always starts with knowing what you want to achieve. What would be the purpose of it? What would you like to achieve? Current social media posts are there to help spreading the word of Nix and growing of the community. And community is not only Once we established the goal of what we want to do with social media, we collect some metrics to know if we are moving in the right direction (https://nixos.github.io/nixos-metrics). Probably not complete and will never be, but we can still add some things. But those metrics tell us we did achieve certain goals and we are moving in the right direction. Saying that we are "posting whatever comes up in their circle or Discourse" kinda hurts a bit and sounds a bit dismissive and probably discouraging to the person doing the posting and taking the time to actually do the work. I'm sure you didn't mean that, but it came across like it. Currently marketing is blocked on some things that we need to get in order before making any bigger plans, namely website modernisation. After that we'll update the messaging on the website. If you have anybody that would like to help out I'll be more than happy to welcome them and give them space to move things further. | 10:09:37 | |
| sorry, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. It's true that I am abrupt sometimes. | 10:16:15 | |
| I have been thinking about how to provide better feedback over lunch. One input that I received many times by newcomers is that they are overwhelmed with the amount of projects that they see in the community. It's hard for them to know which one to pick, and how they would fit in their toolbelt. That's why when I see projects being promoted by the official NixOS account, it makes me wonder what effect is has on those people. Because it comes from the official account, these projects might be perceived as being endorsed/vetted. Does that make sense? | 12:18:18 | |
| Figuring marketing out is super difficult, that's why I was thinking it could be helpful to have an expert come in and help with these types of reasoning. | 12:20:05 | |
In reply to @zimbatm:numtide.comAlthough more importantly we need expert reasoning on what type of projects to even promote. The how is kind of secondary at the moment. This is essentially what the UX workshop in one months about. | 12:54:34

In reply to @fricklerhandwerk:matrix.orgI don't think in person presence is needed for this kind of discussions. In person just makes those who can not come excluded from it. | 14:34:57
